Infinite Strings

A digital media project designed to promote violin repertoire written by Romanian composers in the last 150 years

 Infinite Strings

Infinite Strings is a long-term project to create a comprehensive multimedia platform promoting the repertoire written for violin by Romanian composers within the span of the last century and a half. This platform will promote the neglected and inaccessible repertoire of representative Romanian composers through the means of digital humanities and will give open access to the large public and professionals to various works in form of reference videos and sheet music. This is an innovative approach, as very few platforms for this purpose have been ever created in classical music, nor an organized effort in this regard has been made specifically for Romanian music.

The “Infinite Strings” project has received the “Enescu Grant” from the Romanian Cultural Institute, as well as the 2023 Independent Scholarship,Research and Creativity Award from the University of Maryland. Irina Muresanu’s research and performance will promote a corpus of repertoire which constitutes a vast heritage of the country, as well as Eastern Europe’s culture. Many of the composers highlighted in this project were inspired by the music of their „roots”, namely Romanian folk music. The title of the project is an homage to two of Romania’s greatest artists: George Enescu and Constantin Brâncusi.
